STEFANIE WILKERSON: I have a really eclectic background. My mom was an interior designer, so I grew up watching her do all of it. I went to the houses with her and just fell in love with it. . I didn't go to school for interior design. It was just in my blood. When we got (to Sheridan), first I did other things, but my husband Kevin and I start- ed I buying houses. Actually, I bought one before I was married, fixed it up on a very tight budget, sold it and made some profit. And then we got married and we bought a house in total shambles and redid every surface. We did all the work ourselves, I did all the design work, and we made a profit and then we kept doing that. So together as a couple, we have probably renovated and remodeled eight houses. TSP: WHAT ARE THE BEST WAYS TO MAKE DESIGNING YOUR HOME BUD- GET-FRIENDLY? SW: For me personally, what I offer is a lot of different levels... You can hire me as a consultant, and this is really how all of my client relationships start an hour-and-a- half consultation fee and it's $100...what I like about what I offer is I can do the entire thing for you, take all the stresses of the decisions away for you and literally install the furniture, and you get to come into your home and you didn't do a thing but talk to me on the phone. Or you do most of the work and just pay me a consulting fee. I just think for budgets, you can do a lot with just chatting....a lot of (interior design firms) don't do that, but I just feel like that's the only way to allow people on every budget to get something out of it.
