Tate Jenkins said this legislation would protect 22,000 acres of WSA, but release 130,000 acres of protected wilderness. "These WSAs are some of the best wildlands in Wyoming, and reducing their current protections does not reflect public opinion or the thousands of Wyomingites, Americans and other public land users represented by our organizations," Tate Jenkins said. "Even though this bill would designate the first Wilderness area in Wyoming since the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association and other conservation organizations around the state stand in opposition to this bill due to the fact it is a net loss for WSAs and potential Wilderness in the state." Ilgen said exploring wilderness spaces provides a rare opportunity that's devoid of the commercialism he's seen in spades, even in his home state of Colorado. Since moving to Wyoming, Ilgen hopes the state can find a balance between tourism and seclusion, because the rarity of spaces like Cloud Peak Wilderness is something worth protecting. "(Cloud Peak Wilderness) is kept pretty clean, pretty secluded, and for the most part, pretty unknown, which is what I'd like to keep it as," Ilgen said.
